Install guide

Installing your tracker

These steps are for the Apex Self-Install package. If you chose Apex Pro Install, an RS Connect engineer fits it for you — you just do step 3.

  1. 1. Power the device

The tracker arrives pre-configured — connect it on the vehicle battery so it has power. The SIM is already inside, with nothing to insert or activate.

  2. 2. Let it connect

The device must be powered and connected to the network before it can be linked. Give it a few minutes after first power-up.

  3. 3. Link it in the app

In the app, add a vehicle, choose whether it's a car or a motorbike, and enter the IMEI — you'll find it printed on the device and on its box.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How do I order a tracker package?
Choose Apex Self-Install or Apex Pro Install and check out online. You'll create your account, pay for the tracker, and your £8.99-a-month subscription starts after the free first month. Self-Install trackers are configured and shipped, arriving in 3–5 days. For Pro Install, our installation partner RS Connect will be in touch to arrange your fitting. Prefer to talk it through first? Call our enquiry line or send an enquiry from the packages page.
How do I install the tracker?
The Apex Self-Install package arrives pre-configured, so it's plug and play: connect it on the vehicle battery so it has power — the SIM is already included, with nothing to activate separately. The Apex Pro Install package is professionally installed by our installation partner RS Connect, because it's wired into the vehicle's starter circuit for immobilisation. Either way, once the device is powered and connected, link it in the app.
How does the Pro Install appointment work?
Installation is included in the £249.99 Apex Pro Install package. An RS Connect engineer fits the tracker at your home or workplace. Standard appointments run Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00, with travel to mainland UK and Northern Ireland included (excluding the Scottish Highlands and UK islands) — other areas and out-of-hours visits are available on request, subject to availability and an additional charge. Please make sure the vehicle and your tracker are on site for the appointment, and give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or rearrange — late cancellations and missed appointments incur the full installation charge. Installation labour is covered by RS Connect's one-year warranty.
Where do I find the IMEI?
The IMEI is printed on the tracker itself and on its box. You'll enter it in the app when linking the device to your vehicle.
The app can't find my tracker — what should I check?
The tracker must be powered and connected before you link it. Check the device has power from the vehicle, give it a few minutes to connect after first power-up, and confirm you've entered the IMEI exactly as printed.
Will anti-theft alerts work when my phone is on silent?
On iPhone, yes — anti-theft alerts are delivered as critical alerts, which bypass silent mode, so an unexpected ignition sounds the alert even if your phone is silenced. Android receives the same push alerts. Delivery time depends on network conditions and isn't guaranteed.
What happens if a thief unplugs or jams the tracker?
Unplugging the tracker from the vehicle's power sends a critical tamper alert straight away, and the tracker's backup battery keeps it reporting briefly after the cut. Towing or lifting the vehicle with the ignition off raises a critical alert too. If the tracker picks up strong signal interference, which a jammer can cause, or stops reporting altogether, you'll get a notice rather than an alarm: car parks and poor coverage cause both far more often than thieves do, so we flag it without waking you.
How does remote immobilisation work?
Remote immobilisation is available with the Apex Pro Install package only. From the app or your online account you can immobilise the vehicle so it can't be restarted, and release it just as easily. Only the starter circuit is cut, so a vehicle that's already moving keeps running normally and never cuts out on the road, but once the engine is switched off it won't start again until you release it. If the tracker is asleep, the request applies when it next checks in. You can also have the vehicle immobilise itself when a theft is confirmed, or set allowed hours outside which it's immobilised automatically.
How many vehicles can I track?
As many as you like, whether they're cars, vans or motorbikes. Each vehicle has its own tracker on a flat £8.99/month subscription (no tiers). Add or remove vehicles anytime and manage them all from one account.
Does it work on motorbikes?
Yes. Apex Self-Install has a weatherproof casing that suits motorbikes and exposed mounts. When you link a tracker, the app asks whether it's on a car or a motorbike, and motorbikes are protected around the clock by default. Remote immobilisation comes with Pro Install, which is designed for cars and vans.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Manage or cancel anytime from your account at apex-tracking.co.uk/account. Your subscription runs to the end of the period you've already paid for, then simply doesn't renew.
Whose vehicles am I allowed to track?
Only vehicles you own or have legal authority over. Apex Tracking must not be used to covertly track other people, and you're responsible for using it lawfully.
